Advocating and raising awareness
To achieve a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of children, change must happen on a community level and awareness must be increased on a national level as well. That is why advocacy and support campaigns are some of the top priorities for Save the Children Jordan, as these campaigns do not only include defending children’s rights, but also developing activities that empower children, enhance their abilities and decision-making skills. We, at Save the Children Jordan, are committed to giving children a voice and amplifying it until it reaches all concerned parties.
“Save Our Education” Campaign
With all the challenges and repercussions that the Covid-19 pandemic has imposed, and with more than 16 million children around the world dropping out of school, Save the Children Jordan joined local and global voices in demanding the return of face-to-face teaching in schools by launching a 100-day social media campaign called “Save Our Education”.
The campaign aims to support children in Jordan and around the globe by emphasizing how important it is for decision makers in the educational process to actively work towards returning to face-to-face teaching to ensure that all children have access to their basic right to education.
"The Last Possessions" Initiative
In conjunction with the passing of 10 years since the Syrian crisis and in collaboration with VMLY&R, Save the Children Jordan launched “The Last Possessions” initiative to provide all the possible support to Syrian children and their families in Zaatari camp. This initiative worked on highlighting the last possessions that Syrian children carried with them when they were forced to leave Syria, and how they kept them as memories with the hope of one day going back.
Both Save the Children Jordan and VMLY&R took pictures of these possessions to display them in a book and a virtual art gallery. In addition, all interested individuals and companies were invited to contribute to the success of the initiative by donating through the website: https://thelastpossessions.org
"We Can" campaign
What is the dream between your eyes?
This is the question that children in Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt were asked through the “We Can” campaign, which was launched with the hashtag #DreamsBetweenMyEyes on social media.
The aim of this campaign was to give children an artistic and creative space to express the change they want to see in their communities for girls, by expressing their thoughts and feelings through paintings and art works. These art works were later displayed in a virtual exhibition In addition, the stories and future aspirations of these children were also collected in a book titled “My Dream Between My Eyes” which was in both Arabic and English.
"Child Marriage Kills Their Childhood" Campaign
On International Women’s Day, Save the Children Jordan, which is a member of the National Committee to End Child Marriage, launched the “Child Marriage Kills Their Childhood” campaign to call for the stop of all violations against girls, and work towards raising awareness about this community issue and its negative effects. The campaign was launched on social media, where it highlighted all the figures and statistics of child marriages in Jordan.
The campaign was able to successfully reach around 50,000 people on social media and was even circulated by many influencers who were sure to show their support to the organization’s efforts and contribute to raising awareness.
